Career Readiness is a lifelong process, not a short sprint. The reoccurring themes throughout this process include:
- Creating YOUR career
- Maintaining YOUR career
- Building YOUR career
- Changing YOUR career
- Reinventing YOUR career
I have some experience to speak to this topic because I have transitioned thus far, 8 times. What I have learned is “there will never be anyone more interested in your career, than you”.
Career readiness has proven valuable at each transition. You begin by proactively setting a script for each transition throughout:
- Committing to self-assessment
- Looking beyond today
- Embracing “continuous improvement”
- Being flexible (by building a wide range of skills and experience)
- Being kind to yourself (in the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “There is more to life than increasing its speed”)
